Saint Renan  market

A visit to the bustling Saturday market in the medieval town of St Renan is a must.  Narrow streets are crammed with market stalls selling a variety of local produce from fresh seafood to locally grown strawberries.  You'll find jewellery makers and basketware weavers tucked amongst the livestock stalls selling chickens, ducklings and rabbits.  Enjoy a coffee in the beautiful "Café du marché" on the old market place.

Le conquet

The picturesque town of Le Conquet lies just along the coast at the end of La Ria estuary.  Hidden in the narrow winding streets of this tiny, but important port, are boutiques selling a range of gifts and nautical artefacts.  The town boasts some of the finest restaurants and bars in the area, where seafood is a daily speciality and the cost of a plat du jour makes the meal even more enjoyable! From here you can catch the daily ferries to the islands; Ouessant, Molène or Sein, or simply watch the fishermen and boats in the harbour.

Kergroades castle

Brest

Less than 30 minutes drive away lies the naval city of Brest.  An important port since Roman times, in recent years the city has been ranked as Brittany's second university town and as such has experienced an expansion in arts and cultural activities.

The city was re-built after the devastation of the Second World War and the streets and now lined with fashionable shops and cafè bars.  It is home to Oceanopolis the centre for scientific and technical study of marine life.  Oceanopolis provides a window on all activities linked to the sea and as Finistere's top tourist attraction makes for an interesting family day out.

Further afield but still within an easy 1-2 hours drive south on open roads are the popular destinations of Quimper, Douarnenz, Pont Aven and Concarneau.

It is difficult to deny the attraction of North West France

Whatever your interests - walking, the market, horse riding, cycling, fishing, sailing, surfing, golf - Finistère is the perfect place for your holidays. If you prefer more cultural and historical pastimes, Finistère will fill you with its fullness of culture and tradition.
